Choose Shopify Sidekick prompts by job
Choose Shopify Sidekick prompts for order-change work by the required output and the person responsible for reviewing it.
Start with one order. Replace bracketed fields with values from the client’s store. Use exact product variants and dates, and replace the internal email recipient. Keep the merchant’s approval owner beside the prompt in your team’s shared sheet.
| Job | Prompt to start with | What Sidekick does | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Correct an order | “Prepare a quantity change on [ORDER].” | Stages an edit for review | Target line, payment balance, fulfillment, notification |
| Route repeat changes | “Draft an inactive Flow using Revize’s Order edited trigger.” | Generates a workflow draft | Installed trigger, conditions, recipient, test results |
| Investigate order activity | “Build an orders-over-time exploration for [DATES].” | Generates a ShopifyQL query | Date range, metric, filters |
| Review customer editing | “Ask Revize for orders edited by edit type for [DATES].” | Reads Revize app data | App approval, requested dates, metric meaning |
For the broader capability assessment, use the Sidekick and agency scorecard. Keep this sheet focused on order-change work.
Stage an order edit for review
Sidekick prepares product, quantity and discount changes in the existing-order editor for merchant review. Shopify documents these supported edits.
Open the intended order before prompting. Shopify says the order changes only when the merchant reviews the proposal and clicks Update order. See the confirmation step.
Prepare an edit to order [ORDER]. Add [PRODUCT AND EXACT VARIANT] with quantity [QUANTITY]. Leave the change ready for review.Sidekick stages the addition. Before the merchant approves the proposed change, compare the exact variant and quantity against the customer’s request, inspect the new order total, and assign someone to follow up on any payment still due.
Prepare an edit to order [ORDER]. Remove [EXACT LINE ITEM]. Leave the change ready for review.Sidekick stages the removal. Check that the remaining products match the customer’s request and review the lower total. Keep the refund task explicit.
Prepare an edit to order [ORDER]. Set [EXACT LINE ITEM] to a final quantity of [NEW QUANTITY]. Leave the change ready for review.Sidekick stages the final quantity. Compare the original and proposed quantities against the customer’s request, then check the target line’s fulfillment status before approving a change that the warehouse might already be too far along to honor. State the final quantity to avoid ambiguity. If the customer could make this change themselves, see changing quantity before an order ships. Revize removes the need for that ticket by letting customers change eligible orders themselves before fulfillment.
Prepare an edit to order [ORDER]. Apply a [PERCENTAGE] manual discount to [EXACT LINE ITEM]. Leave the change ready for review.Sidekick stages the discount. Inspect its scope and calculated amount. Check the resulting payment balance and the customer-notification choice before approving any of these edits.
Saving an increased total lets the merchant send an updated invoice; a decreased total lets the merchant issue a refund. Saving is not payment collection.

Draft Flow for repeat changes
Sidekick generates inactive Shopify Flow workflows for merchant review and testing before manual activation. Shopify’s workflow guide describes that sequence and its desktop requirement.
Install and open Flow on a desktop device first; Sidekick requires one to generate workflows. Build with the triggers, conditions and actions available in that installation, including installed app connectors.
Use Revize’s documented Order edited trigger for these drafts; Revize’s triggers appear in Flow once Revize is installed. Revize passes order details and updated values through its Flow integration.
Draft an inactive Shopify Flow workflow using Revize's Order edited trigger. Add the tag [EDIT TAG] to the order and send an internal email to [OPS EMAIL] with the order link. Leave it inactive for review.Sidekick drafts the workflow. Check the selected trigger, the tag spelling and the ops email recipient, and pick a tag your fulfillment rules don’t already use. Test the order link before activation.
Draft an inactive Shopify Flow workflow using Revize's Order edited trigger. If the order's current outstanding balance is greater than zero, email [OPS EMAIL] the order link and balance. Use available order fields. Leave it inactive.Sidekick drafts the condition and notification. Inspect the actual balance field and currency. Test a paid order and an order still owing money before activation, and decide how ops should handle repeated edit alerts.
Keep the draft inactive if the generated balance field cannot represent the amount still owed on the order, or if the trigger data does not show the state your team needs to act on.
The Flow prompt guide covers broader automation ideas. Approving a workflow draft is a separate task from approving an individual order edit.
Build reports with defined metrics
Use order reports to spot where order changes and reversals cluster before investigating the affected orders.
Sidekick can generate ShopifyQL queries for order reporting from plain-language requests. Shopify explains how report generation works.
ShopifyQL is Shopify’s reporting query language. Use a new exploration in a desktop browser for these requests. Shopify specifically documents questions about orders over time, reversals by product, and fulfillment times.
Create an orders-over-time data exploration for [START DATE] through [END DATE]. Show the order count by day.Sidekick builds a report query. Before sharing the result with a client, check the requested dates and daily grouping, then record the report name beside the finding so the merchant can return to the same definition next month. Shopify says Orders over time counts an edit made after the placement day as a separate order, even though no new order was created.
Create an orders-and-reversals-by-product exploration for [START DATE] through [END DATE]. Show ordered quantity and reversed quantity by product.Sidekick builds a report query. Check that the output uses quantities. Avoid labeling the result as cash refunded or as a complete customer-edit ledger. Keep the client’s financial interpretation within the report’s documented scope.
Show median time to fulfill for orders in [START DATE] through [END DATE]. State the measurement period and time unit.Sidekick builds the fulfillment report. Check that the metric measures order receipt to fulfillment, with the intended period and unit. Keep delivery time separate.
Shopify Sidekick prompts for Revize data
Revize gives Sidekick read-only answers about customer order edits, added order value, edit duration, orders awaiting additional payment, and cancellation reasons. Revize lists the available data.
Shopify says Sidekick asks for approval before using an installed app. Approve the intended app when the request appears.
Each prompt below requests an app-data answer. Through Sidekick, Revize cannot change settings, edit orders, or act for customers. Name Revize in the prompt so the requested source is clear.
Ask Revize how many orders were edited from [START DATE] through [END DATE], broken down by type of edit.Sidekick reads Revize’s edited-order data. The dates select orders by when they were placed, so “orders placed in March that carry edits” is the right reading, not “edits made in March”. A recent period has had less time to collect edits, so don’t present it as a drop in activity. One order can carry several edit types, so don’t add the types together.
Ask Revize for order value added after checkout from [START DATE] through [END DATE]. Label it as value added.Sidekick reads added order value. Value added is not cash collected. Before the merchant uses the answer in a client revenue report, check that the heading preserves the value-added definition and that nobody has presented an increase in order value as a confirmed payment collection.
Ask Revize for average edit duration from [START DATE] through [END DATE]. Include the unit used in the answer.Sidekick reads the average duration. Before comparing the answer with an earlier client period, check that both figures use the intended date ranges and the same duration unit, and keep the metric labeled as edit duration throughout the merchant’s report. Do not turn the figure into support hours saved.
Ask Revize how many orders currently await additional payment. Treat this as the current backlog across all order dates, without a date filter.Sidekick reads the current backlog. The count spans all order dates. Before the merchant adds that count to a monthly client report, record when you asked the question and check that the heading identifies a current backlog across all order dates, without implying a monthly creation cohort.
Ask Revize for cancellations by reason from [START DATE] through [END DATE]. Keep the returned reason labels.Sidekick reads the cancellation breakdown. Like edited orders, the dates select orders by when they were placed. Keep the exact returned labels so the comparison stays tied to the reason the customer recorded, and don’t infer a cause the data does not show.
Keep the backlog separate from the dated answers. A monthly client slide should label edited-order and cancellation counts by order-placement period, value-added and edit-duration metrics by activity period, and the unpaid backlog by the time it was checked.

Assign client approvals before rollout
For each client store, assign every Shopify Sidekick prompt a reviewer who checks the output and approves any resulting change.
Keep one shared prompt sheet. Record the client store and paste the prompt beside its purpose. Add the expected output and name the reviewer with their approval check. Copy the template across clients, then replace each store’s product references and notification recipients.
Shopify says every staff member can use Sidekick based on their admin permissions. Assign the merchant’s authorized staff member to review staged edits and own payment follow-up.
Test each Flow draft in the client store before activation. Shopify warns that generated workflows can omit business-specific logic. Review its workflow-testing requirement.
Keep the actual output with the approved prompt so the merchant’s next shift can see the proposed change or workflow beside the reviewer’s decision without having to reconstruct the request from a chat. The agency post-purchase playbook covers the wider client operating process.
Give customers an editing route
Sidekick is an admin assistant, and Shopify says it cannot talk to customers or handle support conversations for you. Shopify states that boundary directly.
Revize gives customers an editing flow on the Shopify order status page, inside the merchant’s edit window and before fulfillment. The merchant controls what customers can change. Revize’s customer portal documentation describes that flow.
Set the deadline first. Start with the customer editing setup guide, define the permitted changes, then install Revize for customer self-service. Keep staff approval ownership in the prompt sheet.
Frequently asked questions
Can Sidekick change an order without my approval?
Sidekick updates an existing order only after you review its proposed edits and click Update order. Shopify documents this confirmation step.
Can customers use Sidekick to change their own order?
No. Sidekick is an admin assistant, and Shopify says it can’t talk to customers or handle support conversations for you. See Shopify’s Sidekick setup guide. Revize provides customer self-service order editing on the order status page, within the merchant’s editing window and before fulfillment.
Can Sidekick see my Revize data?
Yes, read-only. With Revize installed, Sidekick can answer questions about orders edited by type of edit, order value added after checkout, average edit duration, orders awaiting additional payment and cancellations by reason. Revize lists the data it shares. Sidekick asks for your approval before it uses an installed app.
Does Sidekick need Shopify Plus?
No. Shopify says Sidekick is included with your plan, with features and usage limits varying by plan. Avoid promising identical capabilities across client stores.
Will the same prompt always produce the same result?
No. Shopify says the same AI request can produce different results. Its AI best practices call for review before approval. Keep each prompt with its accepted output so the next reviewer has a concrete reference.
